I was once watching a TV clip from a 1970's German show, and while the 3 singers/dancers were singing (or perhaps lypsyncing) a light, frivolous, catchy & fun pop song, while the audience was sitting, looking half-asleep, bored, and unhappy.

Any thoughts?
(yeah, I'm bored)

I had this record!! I have to go download this song now... I am building a collection of mp3s of all the 45 rpms I had.

Now, here's why I think they looked so bored.

By the time this song was popular in the US, the German music scene was changing. They had disco already for many years, so I'm sure they were really tired of it by the time the Silver Connection came out with Get Up and Boogie. It seems like Europe is like 2-3 years ahead of the US with music and fashion. Discoteques were not just for disco music. Disco music CAME from discoteques, but any type of dance music was acceptable there. Now, all you hear in clubs is techno and rap. Long gone are the days of music with fun and happy messages like "Get up and Boogie", "Celebration", "Shake your groove thang", etc.

I'm just patiently waiting for Hip-Hop to become a passing fad.

The performers were West Germans and the audience were East Germans.

Regardless, this is the video (no, I didn't uploaded it nor do I have a copy, though I do have a couple of their LP-albums):

With such deep, intelligent lyrics like this, it is a shocker that the audience is so bored and unhappy. The lyrics are better than anything on MTV lately! (oh wait, I forget, MTV doesn't play any music these days).

On a serious note, I heard the reason the lyrics are one-line-long is because one or two of the vocalists couldn't speak english so the producer-songwriters used very simple lyrics she/they could remember.

Maybe the audience looked bored becouse they didn't speak English either. Used to have this song on a K-TEL record. Simpler times then.
